According to data from the Annual Agri-Food and Fisheries Foreign Trade Report 2021, exports of the meat group (Chapter 02 TARIC) have not stopped increasing since 2012.
Overall exports have increased 4.4% in this last year, reaching the highest balance of the decade under study. 55.3% percent of exports are directed to third countries and 44.7% to the EU-27. The most relevant subgroup in exports is pork, representing 73% of exports.
The subgroup Meat and offal of swine, chilled or frozen (TARIC codes: 0203, 02063000, 02064100, 02064900, and 020910) which does not include salted, dried, or smoked meat, is traditionally an export sector, reaching a positive balance of 6.198 billion € in 2021, with a slight decrease of 1.4% with respect to 2020 and was the main product in the exports section. Throughout the 5 years analyzed, 2017-2021, exports have increased in value and volume. Specifically, in 2021 exports have increased by 66% in value and 54.4% in volume compared to 2017.
Imports in this period have undergone slight fluctuations, increasing by 18.2% in value in 2021 compared to 2020. In this subgroup, exports have always had a much higher value than imports.
In the period under study, export prices have increased from 2.09 €/kg in 2017 to 2.25 €/kg in 2021, decreasing by 4.4% in 2021 compared to 2020. Average prices for imports have gone from 1.75 €/kg to 1.50 €/kg, decreasing 15.4% between 2020 and 2021.
