The increase in exports to Asia, specially to China, causes excitement. China imports 28.2% of the Brazilian pork and 13% of the Brazilian chicken.
According to the President of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Mr Francisco Turra, the animal production capacity of Brazil places it as one of the main pork and chicken suppliers in the world. “We are currently the fourth greatest pig producer in the world”.
The expectations of the ABPA regarding pork is to end 2019 with a growth in production by 1-2.5%. The prediction, according to the ABPA is to reach 4.1 million, beating the 3.97 million tonnes produced in 2018. An increase in the consumption per capita of 1-2% (reaching 16 kg) is also expected in comparison with 2018.
Regarding exports, in the first seven months of 2019 they have reached 414,000 tonnes, this representing an increase by 19.6% in the volume of sales to the foreign markets. This important variation in pork exports is directly influenced by the fall in the pig census in China due to the presence of ASF for a year now.
