The last three outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in early April were recorded in the Khabarovsk Territory (2) and the Komi Republic (1). So, in the Khabarovsk Territory, one outbreak is located on the farm in the village of Konstantinovka, where 131 pigs were kept, 16 of them were sick and six died. The second outbreak was on a personal subsidiary farm in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where two pigs were sick and one died. In the Komi Republic, an outbreak was detected in the village of Malaya Sluda, there were 57 pigs on the farm, one was sick and died.
According to veterinary regulations, all pigs in the ASF outbreak must be removed and destroyed. Moreover, according to the new document, which was valid starting March 1, 2021, the deadline for the removal of pigs is set in a week, and the quarantine has been extended to 30 days.
The epizootic situation with ASF in Russia remains difficult. According to the forecast by ARRIAH scientists, in 2021, an average of 132 new outbreaks are expected among domestic hogs and 69 in wild boar. Moreover, outbreaks can arise in previously prosperous territories with a high density of pig herds. ASF is a problem for both small, private farms and large pig breeding companies.
At the end of 2020, an outbreak was detected at the Miratorg enterprise in the Kursk region, in January - at the Cherkizovo finishing barn in the Tambov region.
According to the National Union of Pig Breeders, from November 2020 to January 2021, about 560 thousand pigs were destroyed in Russia due to ASF.
