Even though China's volume of imports fell by 2% between January and June this year, shipments of Chilean pork to the People`s Republic of China grew by 18% in volume compared to the previous period.
Several factors contribute to the increase in shipments to China, such as the fact that not many countries are authorised to export pork to China, and also that several amongst them are not allowed to export because they use ractopamine.
The European Union is today the main supplier of pork to China, whilst the Chinese market is the third most important destination for Chile .
