Over 5 additional million (+ 4%) pigs have been slaughtered during the first six months of this year in the European Union compared to the same period last year. This represents an increase of 4%.
The increase is led by Spain, with an increase of 9% (almost two additional million pigs slaughtered), followed by the Netherlands, with an increase of 8% (570,000 additional pigs), and Germany, with 700,000 additional animals slaughtered, a proportionately lower increase (+ 2%), but equally remarkable.
For the same period, USA has increased the number of animals slaughtered by about 4 million (+ 7%).
