According to the last InterPIG report regarding pig production costs in the countries that make up the group, in 2015 the average production cost in the EU was €1.61/kg carcass weight: a decrease by 3% with respect to 2014. All the EU countries showed a drop in production costs in comparison with 2014, except the UK, where the costs increased by 5%.
Among all the countries, there were also rises in production costs in the USA and Canada (+8% and +4%, respectively). In the EU, the highest production costs were registered in Italy (€1.84/kg carcass) and the UK (€1.83/kg carcass), whilst the lowest costs were registered, once again, in Denmark and Spain, with a total production cost of €1.46/kg carcass.
Amomg the 15 countries that make up the InterPIG group, the lowest production costs were registered in the USA (€1.10/kg), if we do not bear in mind the €0.96/kg in Mato Grosso, Brazil (€1.19/kg in Santa Catarina, Brazil). Regarding the cost of feed, in 2015, all the InterPIG member countries showed a drop in the feeding costs in comparison with 2014.
Regarding productivity, the global average number of weaned pigs per sow and year in the EU showed a rise by 1% with respect to the previous year, going from 26.40 in 2014 to 26.81. Denmark stands out with 31 weaned piglets pr sow and year. The figure in the USA was 25.26, still below the 2013 results (25.50), but above those in 2014 (24.82). Canada reached 23.27, and Brazil 25.36 and 26.66 in the states of Mato Grosso and Santa Catarina, respectively.
