Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed SF 2391, a bill for an act prohibiting the misbranding of imitation meat and egg products. The bill requires certain labeling requirements for plant-based and imitation meat and egg products sold in Iowa. As of July 1, the label for these products must contain words such as “fake,” “lab-grown,” “meatless,” “imitation,” or “vegan.”

According to Gov. Reynolds, this legislation prevents companies from misleading consumers, and products labeled chicken, beef, or pork, should come from an animal.
