The northern Italy regions have signed a strategic agreement encompassing, in this way, part of the Italian historically pig producing regions. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Agriculture Commissioners of the regions of Veneto, Lombardy, Piemonte, Emilia-Romagna, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The agreement encompasses pig producers, abattoirs, PDO cured sausages protection associations, technical associations and, lastly, agrarian professional organisations and cooperatives.

The agreement focuses on two items of paramount importance: the establishment of the reference carcass weight and the improvement in the implementation of the carcass classification system.
