By the end of March, the Chinese authorities gave the green light to the imports of Italian cooked meats, such as ham, mortadella, sausages and other heat-treated products from Italy. The Ministry of Health announced the end of the negotiations, which started in 2004, with the Chinese market.
A first group of Italian companies will be able to export cooked sausages made with meat from pigs reared and slaughtered in Italy. The authorisation has been given to several establishments that were visited eight years ago by the Chinese health authorities and approved by the end of March by the Veterinary Services in Beijing.
