The import of live pigs from Italy in the first half of 2012 was characterized by an overall decrease of 13.3% compared to 2011, especially in regard to pigs over 50 kg (-21.9%) and breeders (-32.3%), in contrast, the import of pigs under 50 kg increased by 6.5%.
On the other hand, the import of fresh meat fell by 6.5% while for frozen meat there was an increase of 10.2%. However, processed meat suffered a decrease of 6%. Regarding exports, the upward trend continues with an increase of 6.7% for frozen meat and 4.4% for processed meat while exports of fresh pork declined by 3.6 %.
