The Italian Ministry of Agriculture has reported the seizure by the Italian Guardia di Finanza in Padova of some 10 tonnes of pigmeat of Chinese origin, in view of the danger of contamination by African swine fever.
The meat was brought into the European Union in clear violation of customs and health regulations. The health authorities considered the product to be potentially very dangerous and it was immediately incinerated.
The seizure took place in a bulk food warehouse where 9,420 kg of pigmeat of Chinese origin was unloaded from a Dutch truck (the meat had arrived in Rotterdam).
