According to the data of the Agriculture Committee of Sardinia (Italy), so far this year 35 outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed.
This disease has risen again in the last 4 years, with 176 outbreaks in 2013, 91 outbreaks in 2012 and 34 outbreaks in 2011.
The losses in the sector are deemed to be of around 50 million euros, with a loss of 37% of the pig population. Also, although the first outbreaks where limited to certain areas, now they have spread to the areas of Campidano and Medio Campidano.
