Last 29 January, the Italian National Pig Producers' Association (ANAS) published in its webpage the importance of the measures to prevent the spreading of the PEDv after the alarm due to the detection of four outbreaks of this disease in Lombardy.

The four outbreaks have been confirmed by the IZS Brescia, that pointed out that the culprit is a low-pathogenicity US strain, and so, it is not the feared strain that has been affecting the North American pig herd for months.

Anyhow, the IZS Brescia's Diagnosis Department has activated an emergency plan in order to be able to reach a diagnosis in 24 hours and to typify the virus in 48 hours. The pig farmers are urged to send samples to the Brescia laboratory at once in case of a suspicious case.
