Following the confirmation of a case of African swine fever in a wild boar in the Piedmont area, the Experimental Institute for Veterinary Prophylaxis of Piemonte, Liguria, and Valle d'Aosta (IZSPLV) has identified two new possible cases to be confirmed by the Experimental Institute for Veterinary Prophylaxis of Umbria and Marche, the national reference center for swine fever (CEREP).
The two suspected cases were found in Franconalto (Alessandria, Piedmont region) and Isola del Cantone (Genoa, Liguria region). Confirmation from CEREP is expected early this week.
Following the confirmation of the first case, the Ministry of Health has identified an affected area comprising a total of 78 municipalities, of which 54 are in Piedmont and 24 are in Liguria. The ministerial order is expected to be published this week.
