USA authorities have revoked the systematic control of all batches of Italian dry sausages at customs. The measure, known as "100% re-inspection" severely limits the export of Italian products made with raw meat to the USA.
The USA decision came after intense negotiations that took place last year between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as associations of producers and veterinary services.
During 2014, USA was the main destination outside the EU for Italian dry sausages, marking an increase of 16.4% in volume and 18% in value compared to 2013. To date, Italian dry sausages were forced to remain in customs warehouses for several days before sampling, with the additional financial burdens.
