The Ministries of Agriculture and Health have issued an interministerial circular on the theoretical training of assessors foreseen by the National Quality System for Animal Welfare (SQBNA) and on the minimum requirements for training bodies and companies. The circular was sent after the signing of the decree of October 24, with which both Ministries definitively adopted the certification specifications.
The SQNBA system aims to improve food quality and the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of production processes in the livestock sector, improving animal welfare and health conditions and reducing emissions into the environment. It is part of the CAP National Strategic Plan (2023-2027).
The system provides a quality certification process based on five specifications. In the case of swine, only finishing pigs over 50 kg and raised outdoors are certified.
The circular defines the theoretical training of assessors (criteria, content, and duration of the training courses) and the minimum requirements of the organizations and companies that provide this training. The Technical Scientific Committee of the SQNBA System has defined the criteria for training veterinary assessors and other professional figures.
