According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture's Animal Export Report by CEXGAN (Livestock Foreign Trade), during the month of January of this year, Spain exported 164,898 tons of pork and pork products to China. This figure is double the volume of exports in the same month of 2020 when it reached 73,387 tons.
The difference between China and the other destinations is abysmal; more than 80% of total Spanish pork exports in January went to China, with the Philippines being the second destination with a total of 11,157 tons exported (5.5% of the total) and Japan with 7,685 tons (3.8%) (see graph).
In total during 2020, Spain exported 1,826,106 t of pork and pork products (EU member States not included), of which more than 1,300,000 t were destined for China (according to DG Agri data).
