In the global setting of the ‘One Health’ programme, the Government of Luxemburg has launched a plan against antimicrobial resistances. This action plan will also serve as a base for a communication strategy whose goal will be to raise the awareness of all the parties concerned (general public, animal owners, human and animal health professionals, as well as the political environment) regarding the problem of antibiotic resistances.
Regarding the effects of the rational use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine, Luxemburg will develop several actions such as the implementation of reliable statistics on the real use of antibiotics at the farm level, the implementation of a high biosecurity level on the farms or the use of the available vaccines against certain diseases, according to Mr Fernand Etgen, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection.
The completion of the Antibiotics National Plan is forecasted by the end of 2017 with its adoption by the Governing Council.
