The German Pig Producers’ Association (ISN), has just published the ranking of the main German abattoirs Germany in 2017.
Although the slaughter of pigs in Germany has dropped by 2.4% (57.90 million heads in 2017 versus 59.35 million in 2016), the slaughter of pigs in the 10 main abattoirs has increased by 3.3%. As shown in the table, in all the main slaughterhouses except Vion, the number of slaughtered pigs has risen, with the important increase shown by Willms Gruppe (+45.8%) and Danish Crown (+20.7%) standing out.
Tönnies still holds the first place, with a share of 28.7%, a total of 16.6 million heads slaughtered and an increase by 2.5% with respect to 2016. Vion, although showing a decrease by 4.2% with respect to 2016, keeps the second place, with a share of 14.7%. It is followed by Westfleisch in the third place, with 8.26 million pigs slaughtered and an increase by almost 3% in comparison with 2016. These three abattoirs control more than 57% of the total slaughters, whilst the 10 main abattoirs control almost 80% of the total pigs slaughterings in Germany.
