Meat production in the first quarter amounted to 3,176 tonnes, a drop of 0.9% over the comparative period last year. An increase of 4.9% in the production of pork was mitigated by declines of 24.4 and 0.5% in the production of beef and broiler meat respectively. The number of slaughtered pigs increased by 257 pigs, resulting in higher production of pork.

The producer value of animals slaughtered at licensed slaughterhouses in the period under review amounted to €6 million, €0.1 million or 1.9% more than the corresponding period in 2010.
The producer value of pork went up by 4.9% due to a higher number of slaughtered pigs, while the average price per kilogramme remained at par with the comparative period in 2010.
