At the end of 2023, Mexico's agri-food exports broke a new record, totaling USD 51,874 million, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2022, while imports fell 0.07%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Foreign sales of Mexican food exceeded USD 50 billion for the first time, which contributes to economic dynamics, job creation, and foreign exchange earnings without neglecting the domestic supply.
This figure was driven by the work of the production industry and value chains and the support of public goods such as the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) and trade strategies implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture to seek new markets for domestic producers.
In the preliminary results presented by the Ministry, based on data from the Bank of Mexico, the country's global agrifood trade in 2023 totaled USD 96,171 million, where 54% corresponded to national exports.
Agricultural and agro-industrial imports, totaling USD 44,297 million, showed a decrease of -0.07% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The livestock and fishing trade balance in 2023 increased in exports, totaling USD 21,784 million, and a reduction in imports, which totaled USD 21,119 million, resulted in a positive trade balance of USD 665 million.
