The Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that from January to October 2019, meat production in Federal Inspection Type facilities (TIF) totaled 12,411,563 animals, representing a growth of 9.5 percent (1,086,757 head) over the same period last year.

According to the report, during this period pork production showed the greatest increase, with 8,860,413 animals slaughtered, representing 10.6 percent more (850,680 head) than the same period last year.

Currently, 471 TIF facilities operate in 30 states, although the majority of plants are located in Nuevo León (79), Estado de México (60), Mexico City (51), Jalisco (39), Guanajuato (22), Sonora, Chihuahua and Puebla (with 20 each) and Coahuila (19)

In terms of exports, the TIF certification granted by Senasica, has allowed 140 facilities to export to international markets. According to Senasica's records for the last two years, the main consumers of Mexican meat have been the United States, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and China.

Exports to China have increased and will be strengthened once the negotiations conducted by Senasica and the Chinese Ministry of General Administration of Customs and Health for the marketing of pork and beef viscera are concluded.
