Given the importance of the swine industry and the risk posed by the entry of swine diseases such as ASF into the country, the Jalisco Agency for Agrifood Safety and Quality (ASICA Jalisco) signed a collaboration agreement with the Regional Union of Pig Farmers of the State of Jalisco. Nationally, the state ranks first in pork production, valued at close to 20 million pesos, according to data from the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP).

The objective of this agreement is to establish the general bases and mechanisms to collaborate in joint research, preservation, training, advisory, programs and workshops activities; form working groups of experts and regulators, as well as participate in activities that require technical and scientific support in matters of health, food safety and quality, animal health intelligence, animal health diagnostics, and epidemiological surveillance, among others.

Also present at the signing of the agreement were the president of the Organization of Mexican Pig Farmers (OPORMEX), Heriberto Hernández Cárdenas, and executives from the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of Jalisco (SADER Jalisco).
