With the aim of strengthening measures to protect the health of national livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development created the AVISE mobile device application, available to livestock farmers, which enables the reporting of symptoms in animals that could indicate the presence of exotic diseases on a farm or production unit.

In this way, the ministry provides farmers with a streamlined and efficient warning mechanism to increase the number of notifications, since, according to the National Information System for Exotic and Emergent Diseases (SINEXE), in the last 10 years only 1,260 reports of pig diseases have been received, an average of 10.5 alerts per month in a country with a herd of over 17.8 million head.

With timely notification, exotic diseases such as African swine fever (ASF), bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), foot and mouth disease (FMD), classical swine fever (CSF) and influenza, among others, can be rapidly controlled and prevented.

The procedure for sending reports through the application is simple; the producer must register in the system so that technical staff can communicate with him and follow up on the case.

Once the application generates a username and password, the producer can view an interactive menu with drawings of the species that are enabled for reporting.

For example, in the case of pig diseases, the application gives options for symptoms: high mortality; blisters; vesicles on snout, nipples or legs; bruising; fever, and decaying wounds in live animals.

Then, with the help of the device's localization software, the application will send the geographic location from which the notification was sent to the veterinarians of Senasica's Mexico-United States Commission for Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease and other Animal Exotic Diseases (CPA) so they can examine the animals.

Finally, the system generates a sheet for the user, provides a telephone number to contact in case of any questions, and encourages the user to be attentive to calls from the technical staff of Senasica to follow up on the report.

The AVISE application can be downloaded from Google Play on Android devices and the iOS version will be released soon.
