At the end of 2014, Mexico was consolidated as the seventh largest animal protein producer in the world; «The national livestock sector is one of the most dynamic, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth», said Francisco José Gurría Treviño, General Livestock Coordinator at the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA).
The country has a total livestock farming area of 113 million hectares, equivalent to more than half the national territory.
According to the General Livestock Coordination, and as regards swine production, Mexico is the tenth largest producer of pork, with an annual output of 1.2 million tonnes. The country exports about 84,000 tons, worth 385 million dollars.
