The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico, and the US Departament of Agriculture (USDA) signed a letter of intent with the aim of formalising the cooperation for the exchange of international electronic certificates in terms of plant and animal health matters between both governments.

The aim of these cooperation actions, favoured by the Mexican government, is to speed up and provide more safety to more than 400,000 annual bilateral trade operations between both countries, because it validates the health status of the goods automatically and it eliminates the submission of the original document by the importer.

The aim of the letter of intent is that the authorities of both countries collaborate with the aim of attaining the harmonisation of the criteria for the certification of agri-food products allocated to the bilateral trade.
