Half of the Mexican states have a Health Intelligence State Unit (UEIS) through which information is generated to duly identify the health hazards that could affect the national agricultural, livestock, aquaculture and fisheries heritage.
Currently, the UEISs of 16 states are already integrated: Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Sate of Mexico, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Yucatán and Zacatecas.
So was published by the Director-in-Chief of the National Service of Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA), Mr Enrique Sánchez Cruz, during the signing of the Ratification Agreement for the Implementation of the Health Intelligence State Unit of Jalisco.
The National Health Intelligence Network is a valuable tool to reduce the risk of spreading pests and diseases, because it will be possible to know the health state of plants, animals and aquaculture species in all the country in real time, allowing to take appropriate decisions and to act quickly against any threat that might appear in any place in Mexico, benefiting the agri-food sector production.
The UEISs carry out geospatial referencing and exchange epidemiologic information, this allowing to identify health hazards and to act quickly and efficiently before emergencies.
The UEIS of Jalisco will be very useful for the monitoring of diseases such as avian influenza, tuberculosis and brucellosis, due to the economic importance of livestock production in this state.
The main actions carried out by the UEISs are: training in information integration and analysis; exchange of material regarding sensitive health matters having to do with the main agri-food sectors and weather events; location of Production Units; identification of agriculture and livestock events entailing a health risk; as well as the management of information for the control of the movements of agri-food products.
