According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), the Mexican Court, following protests from local producers, has decided to suspend pork imports from Brazil.
Mexico is among the three largest pork importers in the world, importing 48% of its demand, 90% of which comes from a single supplier.
In this context, Brazil has been acting as an alternative to Mexican partners, serving, in particular, the needs of the Mexican processing industry, which also adds value locally.
The Mexican market was officially inaugurated recently with the authorization of seven Brazilian plants, whose first shipments were made in February of this year. Thus, up to October, 23,000 tons were exported, positioning Mexico as the 11th destination for Brazilian pork exports.
