After confirming the absence of Aujeszky's disease though an epidemiological sampling survey carried out on the 100% of the producing pig farms of the State of Mexico, the Ministry of Agriculture, Stockbreeding, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) declared this region free of Aujeszky's disease.

This declaration is part of the strategic health actions carried out by the SENASICA, the producers and the state authorities so Mexico reaches, in year 2014, the Aujeszky's disease-free status for the benefit of Mexican pig production.

With the aim that the State of Mexico remains Aujezky's disease-free, the health measures regarding the diagnosis, prevention, control, epidemiological surveillance, control of the movements, transportation, crossing, commercialisation and traceability of the pigs, included in the aforementioned Mexican Official Regulation, will have to be applied.

In October 2013, it was reported that the central-western region of Mexico, that includes the states of Colima, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí, registered an advance of 65% with respect to the purpose of becoming declared free of this disease.
