This year, the Chilean pig industry has set a new record, because it has grown, and currently some 55% of its production is exported. South Korea is its main pork importer, according to what the ASPROCER has published. Chile also exports pork to Japan, Russia and China.

The performance of the Chilean pig industry in the last ten years has been clearly positive, and in this process, the Free Trade Agreements between both countries gave place to a competitive advantage for Chile in terms of tariff discounts. During this period, the industry showed a growth by some 5%. Nevertheless, this year the shipments reached a record, because 55% of the pig production has been exported.

ASPROCER estimates that in 2015 the shipments will reach some USD475 million, and that 30% of the exported value belongs to South Korea.
