The National Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan 2024-2030 is a joint effort of the Ministries of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS), Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), and Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) because antimicrobial resistance not only affects public health but also water conditions and animal and crop health.

The plan builds on existing policy and places extra emphasis on three new themes: strengthening cooperation between countries, broadening the focus from antibiotics to antimicrobials (which means that in addition to bacteria and viruses, fungi and yeasts are also included in the approach), and more attention to plant health and the environment.

The Action Plan is aimed at countering the long-term negative effects of resistant micro-organisms on people, animals, and plants in the Netherlands and internationally.

A total of 104 actions are planned for the next six years. Over the next four years, the Netherlands will work closely with other European countries in a large One Health project that supports member states in implementing their antimicrobial resistance policies.
