A case of African swine fever (ASF) has been identified on a farm in Trebur, in the district of Groß-Gerau. The farm, which houses approximately 1,800 domestic pigs, informed the veterinary authorities after discovering a dead animal. Tests conducted by the Hessian state laboratory confirmed the presence of the virus. In accordance with the Animal Diseases Act, all animals will be culled. A specialized company will carry out the culling in a way that ensures animal welfare. This is the eighth affected farm in the district of Groß-Gerau.

This new outbreak is also only a few kilometers from the French border, about 104 km as the crow flies.
