The National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) established new conditions for the commercialization and registration of veterinary products containing antimicrobial active ingredients.
The new regulation restricts the manufacture, marketing, possession, use, or importation throughout the national territory of certain products containing antimicrobial active ingredients reserved only for use in human health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Ministry of Health.
The regulation restricts the use of other antimicrobials for growth promotion, performance enhancers, and/or feed efficiency in animals. In addition, the resolution issued by Senasa indicates that those who have registered veterinary products composed of antimicrobial agents -and are covered by this regulation- must submit a proposal to the national health agency to adapt indications and labeling.
The regulation establishes modifications in products manufactured with fosfomycin or polymyxin B, which are included in the list of antimicrobial active ingredients reserved for use in humans.
Those who have registered veterinary products composed of the mentioned substances will have a term of 30 days from the entry into force of this resolution to request a change in the conditions of registration with a permit exclusively for export, in which case a new certificate of use and commercialization exclusively for export will be granted.
