New foot and mouth disease case ruled out in Germany

Tests performed by the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut on samples from a suspect goat ruled out foot-and-mouth disease.

Tests conducted at the National Reference Laboratory for Foot and Mouth Disease (NRLFMD) of the Friedrich-Loeffler Institute (FLI) on a suspected case of the disease in a goat in the Barnim district have revealed no evidence of FMD virus or specific antibodies.

The samples were tested overnight yesterday and were negative this morning. Despite this good news, it is still important to test herds in the surveillance zone in order to be able to act quickly in case of the appearance of another infected animal.
