Annual exports of fresh and frozen pork (Taric 0203) from the rest of the world to India had an upward trajectory between 2017 (April 1) and 2020 (March 31). The total value of world exports, in millions of US dollars. (MUSD), were: 2.29 (April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018); 2.40 (April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019) and 2.86 (April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020), according to data published by TradeStat, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India (https://tradestat.commerce.gov.in/eidb/).

For the year from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020, the export values were, in MUSD: Belgium, 1.44; Spain, 1.00; Italy, 0.32; USA, 0.05; Russia, 0.03; United Kingdom, 0.01; Sri Lanka, 0.01. In the semester from April 1st, 2020 to September 30th, 2020, according to data from the mentioned source, the global exports of Taric 0203 to India totaled 0.46 MUSD; those from Spain reached a value of 0.15 MUSD, 32.6% of the world-wide total of pig meat imported by India in this semester. Belgium's exports amounted to 0.14 million USD, Russia 0.09 million and Italy USD 0.08 million.

India was a net importer of Taric 0203 products in the period analyzed. The opportunities for growth in pork exports to the country can be associated with the prospects for growth in demand that remains latent, and for a quality supply with comparative advantages over the local supply of these products.
