The porcine industry of Panama is suffering in the face of an increase in pork importations, which is adding to the price of raw materials.

Starting in the second semestre of 2009, and by oficial edict, the tarrifs on importations were reduced from 70% to 40%.

On the other hand, internal consumption of pork has not helped to advance local industry, since it is situated at only 6,8 kg per inhabitant per year, one of the lowest percentages in the Central American region.
