The head of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Augusto Valderrama, explained that the documents signed correspond to the Protocol of Inspection, Quarantine, and Veterinary Health Requirements to export pork from Panama to China and the Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine, and Veterinary Health Requirements for aquatic products from Panama, "will allow us great opportunities in China's huge market for pork, fish and shrimp."
Valderrama stressed that the sanitary protocols clearly establish the responsibilities that must be fulfilled by the corresponding authorities in terms of inspection, surveillance and agricultural quarantine requirements, both for the sanitary system and for the safety of establishments and the products to be exported from Panama to China. This is required by the sanitary regulations of both countries.
It should be noted that Panama exported 31.1 tons of frozen pork in 2018. By signing these sanitary protocols opening the Chinese market and with the Cooperation Agreement on Plant Inspection and Quarantine, ample opportunities will be provided for production, job creation, and export.
