The achievement of zero tariffs for exports to the Republic of China (Taiwan) represents a historic event for the Paraguayan pork industry, considering that Asia is the largest market for this protein. The sector used to pay a tariff of 12.5% to enter the Taiwanese market.
According to data from the National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa), at the end of February this year, a total of 1195 tons of pork were shipped to Taiwan, valued at USD 3.5 million, consolidating its position as the leading market for the Paraguayan product. Uruguay is in second place, with a 7% share, followed to a lesser extent by Georgia and Brazil.
In 2023, there was a historic peak in pork exports to the Taiwanese market, with a 541% increase in the volume shipped, compared to the total shipped in 2022. These numbers demonstrate the good trade relationship between both nations, which helps bilateral economic growth.
