Due to an outbreak occurred on 18 September 2011 in the village of Sargento Loma, the Scientific Commission for Animal Diseases (Scientific Commission) decided, on 27 October 2011, to request technical information from the Delegate of Paraguay with a view to evaluating whether the status of the remaining free zone where vaccination is practiced as recognized by the OIE World Assembly of Delegates in terms of Resolution XIV of the 79th General Session in May 2011 could effectively be maintained.

The Scientific Commission evaluated the information provided by the Delegate of Paraguay on 16 and 23 November 2011 with assistance from the ad hoc Group on evaluation of FMD free status of Member Countries.

Following the decision of the Scientific Commission, the status of the FMD free zone where vaccination is practiced as recognized by the OIE World Assembly of Delegates in terms of Resolution XIV of the 79th General Session in May 2011 is suspended with effect from 5 December 2011.
