Updated estimates from the Department of Rural Economics (Deral), of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply, indicate that the Brazilian state of Paraná will produce 42% less grain than expected at the beginning of the 2021/2022 summer harvest.
The sharp drop is mainly due to the reduction in the potential of soybeans, which occupy 90% of the planted area of grain in Paraná. The volume currently forecast for this crop is 45% lower than the initial estimate.
The Deral survey confirms that climatic adversities have significantly affected the production of the first soybean crop. About 19% of the total expected for the crop has already been commercialized by producers. In the same period last year, when Paraná had a more significant production, farmers had already commercialized 45% of the volume.
The report also shows losses in the first corn crop. Deral's expectation is that 2.76 million tons will be produced, 35% lower than the initial expectation, which was 4.26 million tons.
The expected production for the first corn crop is 2.76 million tons, about 1.5 million less than the initial expectation. The second corn crop presents a more favorable scenario and the planting advanced this week to 38% of the expected area.
