As a sanitary measure to keep the country free of African swine fever virus, the National Agricultural Health Service - SENASA, by means of Directorial Resolution 0012-2021-MIDAGRI-SENASA-DSA, prohibited the entry of pork products into the national territory.
Thus, passengers and crew members traveling through airports, seaports or border control posts will not be allowed to carry sausages, hams, meat preparations, among other goods from any country in their luggage.
The entry of luggage containing ingredients of porcine origin represents a high risk for the introduction of African swine fever. For this reason, the agricultural health authority has reinforced control actions at all entry points and has been promoting information campaigns with the support of strategic allies.
Among other provisions to prevent the entry of the ASF virus, the importation of live animals in the Suidae family and their products was prohibited in 2019. It has also coordinated with SUNAT-Customs, Port Captaincy and international airport concessionaires to implement the proper disposal of waste generated in aircraft and ships coming from abroad.
