Peru's swine production grows in the first quarter

  • Hog slaughter in the first quarter of 2024 reached 892,261 head, an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period of the previous year (861,710 head).
  • As for the slaughter in slaughterhouses, which represents more than 60% of the overall total, 543,380 heads were consolidated, representing a slight increase of 0.2% compared to the same period in 2023.
  • Total pork production in the first three months of the year reached 47,189 tons (t), an increase of 3.8% over the same period of 2023 (45,453 t).
  • In March, domestic production reached 15,700 t, representing an increase of 3.9% compared to the same month of 2023 and a decrease of 0.7% compared to February.
  • Slaughter weight remained stable compared to the first quarter of 2023, with an average of 53 kg.
  • The average price of live animals increased by 2.6% in the first three months of the year compared to the first quarter of 2023, going from PEN 7.07 to PEN 7.26/kg, respectively.
