Twenty-six local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas have progressed from infected zones to buffer zones and are already in the sentineling process, while 15 others are waiting for approval.

Piglets will be dispersed to identified farmers and monitored for 40 days. The LGUs shall release an executive order detailing the measures against ASF, biosecurity level readiness of farmers, and awareness training.

If the piglets survive, it indicates the negative presence of the virus, and they can proceed to the yellow zone, a signal for the start of breeding and repopulation.

San Jose de Buenavista is one of the ASF-affected local government units in Western Visayas that has progressed to a buffer zone. The Antique Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) endorsed 139 hog farmers affected by ASF from the Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista to avail of the sentinelling program.

The last ASF-positive case in the Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista was on Oct. 26, 2023. San Jose de Buenavista incurred a total of PHP24.1 million in losses due to the death of 2,998 swine at the height of the ASF.
