The Department of Agriculture (DA) has approved the calibrated distribution of 70 percent or 140,000 metric tons (MT) of pork meat to address the supply gap.

The meat supply will arrive starting July to October, according to the DA’s minimum access volume (MAV) management committee (MMC).

The second chunk of the importation, which is 30 percent or 60,000 MT, will arrive between November and January 2022, to be opened to all importers on a first-come-first-served basis.

The copy of the MMC Resolution No. 1 sent to reporters on Monday stated that the move shall "provide consumers with adequate and affordable food, and to lower inflation".

The resolution follows President Rodrigo Duterte's approval of Executive Order (EO) 133 on May 10 that increases the 2021 MAV for pork meat from 54,210 MT to 254,210 MT, or an additional 200,000 MT, provided that any unavailable balance at the end of 2021 shall not be carried over to 2022".

"The allocation of the volume importation is fair and open to all qualified importers of pork meat, and in accordance with existing rules and regulations for the implementation of the agricultural MAV and other pertinent laws and regulations," the MMC said.

The resolution also stated that the maximum limit of 50 full-container load, approximately equivalent to 1,250 MT, shall be allowed per application per importer.

Other importers are given equal opportunity subject to the agreed manner of distribution.
