The Production, Consumption and Trade System met with representatives of the Pig Producer’s Association of Nicaragua (Canipor) to address the growth expectations in 2018.

Canipor’s president, Mr Marcos Umanzor, revealed that this year a growth by 8-10% is expected, and pointed out that in 2017, the growth goals were fulfilled by 96.7%.

Although pork imports have risen, they are still working and promoting harmlessness starting on the farms. Regarding investments, he specified that two abattoirs will be opened in Nicaragua, expanding the trading and placement possibilities of this product.

35% of the pork consumed in Nicaragua is imported, and 65% is produced domestically.
