In 2017, pig production in France fell by 1.5% in comparison with 2016, in line with the decrease in slaughterings and the export of live animals.
In 2017, pork exports decreased by 3% in comparison with 2016. We must highlight that the volume sold to China dropped by 42%. The sales to Italy grew, but only compensate two thirds of the percent loss in sales to China.
At the same time, pork imports rose by 1.9% in comparison with 2016, with a predominance of Spanish pork. So, with almost identical export and import volumes, the foreign trade balance in 2017 was slightly positive.
