According to data from the Porkcolombia Association, during the first 11 months of 2019, Colombia produced about 406,085 tons of pork, a 10.4% increase compared to the same period in 2018 (367,895 tons), and a 43% increase compared with January to November of 2015.
Although November's production, with 38,617 tons, is the highest compared to the same month over the last 5 years and 5.6% higher than November 2018 (36,580 t), the record volume was reached during October last year, with 40,934 t.
During the first 11 months of 2019, a total of 4,325,008 head were slaughtered, 8.9% more than for the same period of the previous year, 44.5% of which were slaughtered in the department of Antioquia (1,925,239 head), followed by Cundinamarca with 17.2% of the slaughters (742,207 head). While all departments show increases in the number of animals slaughtered (with the exception of Huila with a decrease of 0.6%), the significant increases in Meta (+32.8%) and Tolima (+25.2%) stand out, going from 227,245 head in 2018 to 304,889 in 2019 and from 23,357 to 29,247, respectively.
