Poland: ASF outbreaks in pigs in the first half of 2024

By the end of June 2024, 12 outbreaks of ASF in pigs had been confirmed.

African swine fever (ASF) was not reported in domestic pigs in the first five months of 2024. The first outbreak of the year was confirmed on June 4 on a farm with 10 pigs in Zadębce, Trzeszczany municipality, Hrubieszów county, Lubelskie province.

Subsequent ASF outbreaks were far away from each other; the second outbreak was located several hundred kilometers from the first, in the village of Sobiewola, in the municipality of Kisielice, Iława county, Warmian-Masurian province, and affected 146 pigs. The third ASF outbreak was on a farm with 34 pigs in Nieznañ, Stare Czarnowo municipality, Gryfino county, West Pomeranian province. They were confirmed on June 7.

The fourth and fifth outbreaks were in Długa Goślina, in the municipality of Murowana Goślina, Poznan county, Greater Poland province, with 34 and 102 pigs, respectively, and were also confirmed on June 7.

The sixth ASF outbreak was confirmed on June 12 on a farm that kept 600 pigs, located in the village of Szwarcenowo, Biskupiec municipality, Novomiejskiy district, Warmian-Masurian province, and a few days later, on June 14, the disease was confirmed in the same municipality, in the village of Czachówki, which was the seventh outbreak. The farm kept 425 pigs.

The eighth outbreak was confirmed on June 16, on a farm that kept 125 pigs in the village of Rogozno, in the municipality of Rogozno, in the Oborniki district, in Greater Poland province.

The ninth outbreak was confirmed on June 16 in the village of Czachówki, where the seventh outbreak occurred. The farm kept 25 pigs. Another, the tenth outbreak, was confirmed on June 18 on a farm where 540 pigs were kept, again in the village of Szwarcenowo.

The eleventh outbreak was confirmed on June 21 on a farm with 659 pigs in Budziska, Połajewo municipality, Czarnkowsko-Trzcianecki county, Greater Poland province.

The twelfth outbreak was on a farm that kept 28 pigs, located in the village of Iłża, municipality of Iłża, Radom county, Mazowieckie province, on June 28.
