Thanks to the efforts of the Chief Veterinary Officer, including successive applications submitted to the European Commission to minimize the extent of the areas subject to restrictions related to the occurrence of ASF in Poland, in the second half of 2022, the areas including the largest restrictions under Commission Implementing Regulation 2021/605 were significantly changed.

The changes made to the regionalization included:

  • 141 municipalities in 4 provinces (Łódź, Subcarpathian, Silesian, and Greater Poland) and 3 cities with county rights (Łódź, Kalisz, Piotrków Trybunalski) were freed from restricted areas;
  • 77 municipalities were transferred from restricted area III to restricted area II in 6 provinces (Lower Silesian, Lublin, Lubusz, Subcarpathian, Warmian-Masurian, and Greater Poland);
  • 14 municipalities were transferred from restricted area III to restricted area I in 2 provinces (małopolskie and świętokrzyskie);
  • 10 municipalities were transferred from restricted area II to restricted area I in Podlaskie province

The Chief Veterinary Inspectorate stresses that it is taking ongoing measures to reduce the extent of restricted areas. It should be noted that in each case considered, the European Commission takes into account, among other things, the general epizootic situation in the country as a whole, the rate of spread of the disease in a given area, and data on its occurrence in previous years.

On December 20 this year, another application was submitted to the European Commission for further changes in regionalization.
