On November 10, Minister Grzegorz Puda participated in a virtual meeting with the Minister of Food and Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Germany, Julia Klöckner, and the Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, Miroslav Toman.
The meeting highlighted the strategic importance of actions to combat African swine fever, pointing out the serious economic and social consequences the virus has on the agrifood sector. The countries expressed their readiness to continue joint efforts to stop the spread of ASF, both at the political level and at the level of veterinary services, research institutes, and experts.
The need to develop increasingly modern and effective methods of combating ASF using new technologies was also affirmed, as was the importance of full exchange of information between neighboring countries, which allows for the coordination of activities in border areas and the strengthening of biosecurity standards on farms.
Trilateral cooperation between Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic in combating ASF will continue and be strengthened. Ministers agreed that the problem of ASF affects the whole European Union and it is necessary to involve the European Commission. These issues will be discussed between the Member States and the EU Commissioner for Agriculture at the next informal meeting of EU Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers scheduled for November 16, 2020.
